Woman Dies in Alleged Domestic Violence; Husband Taken into Custody in Bantwal

Bantwal: Bantwal Rural Police have registered a murder case against a man accused of fatally assaulting his wife following a domestic dispute. The accused has been taken into custody and is being questioned.

According to a complaint filed by Arun Mahadev Desangi (26), a resident of Athani in Belagavi district, the accused is Sanjeevkumar (36), a native of Jamkhandi in Bagalkot district. The deceased, Sunita Mahadev Desangi (34), was his wife. The couple lived in Vagga, Bantwal.

The couple had reportedly been experiencing marital problems, and relatives had intervened to mediate and resolve their differences. After giving birth, Sunita was staying at her parental home. On October 4, the accused brought her back to their Bantwal residence.

On October 22, Sunita allegedly called her brother, Arun, and told him that her husband was harassing and assaulting her.

In the early hours of October 23, Sanjeevkumar reportedly called Arun and informed him that Sunita’s health had deteriorated and that she was being taken to hospital. When Arun arrived at the location, he found her dead. According to the complaint, there were visible injuries and traces of blood on her body.

The complaint alleges that Sanjeevkumar fatally assaulted his wife sometime between the night of October 22 and the early hours of October 23 following a domestic dispute.

Bantwal Rural Police have registered a case under Section 103 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, in Crime No. 142/2026, and an investigation is underway. Police said the accused had been taken into custody for questioning and will be produced before the court.
