Udupi: A woman in Kodankoor near Udupi, delivered a baby boy in her hut on Saturday after her family did not allow her to go to the hospital.

On Saturday, Jalakka (wife of Krishna) delivered a baby boy at his hut. Krishna had gone for work as his wife Jalakka was given the delivery date by the doctors on July 22. However, as this was the case of precipitation of labour, shed delivered the baby in her hut. Local people in her community assisted her in delivering the baby. The health condition of the mother and child is stable.

According to Dr M G Ram (DHO Udupi), “it was refusal from the family of Jalakka that resulted in the home birth. Though our link workers and a nurse rushed to the spot and tried to enter her hut, the family members resisted them. Later, the staff from the health department convinced them and shifted both mother and the new born to Koosamma Shambhu Shetty Memorial Haji Abdullah Maternity and Children Hospital Udupi. Both of them are healthy.”
