World Space Week Celebrations at Pilikula Science Centre from October 7
Mangaluru: A series of programmes will be held at the Pilikula Science Centre on October 7 and 8 as part of World Space Week, jointly organised by the Pilikula Development Authority and the U.R. Rao Satellite Centre (URSC), ISRO, Bengaluru.
The programmes aim to create awareness among the public and students about the importance of space science and technology and their contribution to human development.
World Space Week is celebrated globally from October 4 to 10 every year to commemorate the contributions of space science and technology to humanity, promote the peaceful exploration and use of outer space, and encourage scientific awareness and curiosity, particularly among young people.
The two-day programme at Pilikula will feature an exhibition of ISRO’s space science and technology models, an interaction between students and ISRO scientists, lectures by ISRO scientists and experts, a satellite model-making competition, a quiz, a memory test competition, a water rocket demonstration, visits to the Science Centre galleries and planetarium shows.
The programme is primarily aimed at students and teachers from schools and colleges. Educational institutions have already been invited to participate.
The event will provide students with an opportunity to gain practical exposure and firsthand knowledge of space science and technology beyond the classroom.
The programme is also open to the general public, particularly those interested in space science, astronomy and related fields. Admission is free for all participants.
The Commissioner of the Pilikula Development Authority said in a release that the event would provide visitors an opportunity to experience various activities related to space science and technology.
