Before bringing him to Mangaluru he was produced before the Court in Bengaluru to seek a transit warrant. Accordingly, the Bengaluru court granted a transit warrant to take the accused to Mangaluru. The questioning of the accused is under process. The details collected so far revealed that he has a technical qualification. Aditya Rao is connected to technology in a major way in assembling explosive devices through the internet”, said the police commissioner Dr Harsha in a press meet held at his office here on January 23.

Addressing the mediapersons Dr Harsha said, “Aditya Rao has graduated in BE Mechanical Engineering from a reputed Engineering College in Mysuru and has a Master degree of MBA in Marketing from a reputed College. He has worked in multiple banking and insurance companies like ICICI Prudential, ICICI Lombard, HSBC, Birla Sunlife etc. He states that after working for some time he thought of working outdoors as he was not feeling comfortable and had health issues working indoors. He started to search for an outdoor job using his Technical expertise. He joined Kamadenu Auto company, left the job in three months and applied with falsified documents in a multinational company. During the interview, he performed very well and was selected for job. While the company was verifying his documents he got scared and left the job in two months. Later when he was not getting white-collar jobs according to his expectations and education he decided to take up a blue-collar job and joined Alva’s, SDM, MIT and other organizations as a security guard. After that he thought of working in hotels and bars as he would get free food and accommodation. So he moved to Bengaluru and worked in various hotels”.

Dr Harsha further said, “Aditya later came to know that there was a vacancy in Bengaluru Kempe Gowda airport as a security guard and applied as the salary is Rs 25,000. He appeared for the interview and during the interview, the employer said that he was overqualified but Aditya convinced them to provide him with a job as he was very much in need of it. The employer asked him to come with proper legal papers. He came back to his home town and spent a lot of money to prepare the legal papers. When he went back to Bengaluru with the papers, the employer said that they had appointed a security guard with lesser qualifications. Aditya developed a grudge with the airport authorities and planned to put the airport authorities in trouble. He made threat calls to the airport authorities and the authorities filed a case against him in the Bengaluru airport police station. He also made threat calls to the railway station in Bengaluru and they too filed a case against him. He was convicted and spent nearly a year in prison in Chikkaballapur. When he was in the jail he thought of making it big. After getting released from jail in the second half of 2019, he started to look for material to make explosives. He has a lot of technical knowledge. He used the open market using the internet and started to buy products online. He was researching on assembling an explosive device”.

Dr Harsha also said, “He came to Mangaluru and joined Kudla restaurant in early December and worked there. He was buying components online being delivered to his workplace. He brought various components to this address. Once he was confident of setting up the device, he left the job and shifted his base to Karkala. According to his version, he was working at Hotel Kings Court in Karkala. On December 19, he decided to come to Mangaluru to try the explosive device the next day. He boarded the bus in Karkala and landed at SBI circle in Mangaluru city from there is had taken public transport to the airport. He alighted the bus near a saloon in Kenjar, from there he took the auto to the airport according to his plan. To hide his identity he wore a cap, went and placed the bag containing the explosive device near the ticket counter. After planting the device he took an auto-rickshaw and left. He left Mangaluru, went to Sirsi and Shivamogga to avoid apprehension. After the CCTV footage got viral he went to Bengaluru by bus. In Bengaluru, he was taken into custody and handed over to the Mangaluru police”.

“During the course of the investigation, we have registered two cases of serious nature. The first case is for planting the explosive in the airport under section 10, 11, 13 of explosive substances act and 18 IPC of unlawful activities prevention act. We have taken this case as a top priority. Today we are presenting him before the special designated court after a due medical procedure to pray for granting police custody. The final details will be established and necessary evidence will be collected”, said Dr Harsha.
