Attempted Theft Foiled at Bajagoli Credit Cooperative Society; Accused Apprehended

Karkala: The Karkala Rural Police have successfully apprehended an individual implicated in an attempted theft at the Bajagoli Bunts Credit Cooperative Society, situated within the jurisdiction of the Karkala Rural Police Station. The arrest follows an investigation into an incident that occurred on January 16, 2026, wherein an unidentified perpetrator breached the security of the society’s premises.

Law enforcement records indicate that the unidentified individual forcibly opened the lock of the cooperative society and unlawfully entered the premises with the intent to commit theft. In response to this criminal act, a formal case was registered at the Karkala Rural Police Station under Crime No. 04/2026, invoking Sections 331(2), 305, and 62 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS)–2023.

The ensuing investigation involved a meticulous review of closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage obtained from the crime scene. Analysis of the footage definitively identified Suresh Koraga Poojary as the individual responsible for the attempted theft. Acting on this crucial evidence, police officers promptly apprehended the accused on January 17, 2026.

The arrested individual has been identified as Suresh Koraga Poojary, a 53-year-old male, son of the late Koraga Poojary, and a resident of Achottu Darkhasu House, Nitte Post and Village, Karkala Taluk, Udupi District. Following his arrest, Poojary was presented before the Hon’ble Court, which subsequently ordered his judicial custody pending further legal proceedings.

Authorities have disclosed that Suresh Koraga Poojary has a documented history of involvement in multiple theft cases across various jurisdictions. Records indicate that he is implicated in theft incidents investigated by police stations in Karkala Town, Karkala Rural, Padubidri, Belthangady, Udupi Town, and the state of Goa.

The successful apprehension of the accused was executed under the strategic guidance of Karkala Sub-Divisional Police Officer Prabhu D.T., and under the operational leadership of Karkala Circle Inspector Manjappa. The dedicated team involved in the operation included Police Sub-Inspectors Prasanna M.S. and Sundar, Assistant Sub-Inspectors Prakash and Sundar Gowda, Head Constables Rudresh and Chandrashekar, Police Constables Santosh and Manthesh, along with District CDR staff member Dinesh. Their coordinated efforts were instrumental in bringing the accused to justice and ensuring the security of the Bajagoli Credit Cooperative Society.
