Bantwal Police Dismantle Illegal Cow Slaughter Operation, One Arrested
Bantwal: The Bantwal Rural Police have successfully disrupted an illegal cow slaughter operation in Arala village, leading to the arrest of one individual. The operation, conducted on November 16, 2025, was initiated following credible intelligence received by the police concerning unlawful activities occurring on a residential property.

Upon entering the property, law enforcement officials discovered three individuals actively involved in the slaughter of a cow and the subsequent processing of its meat. While two of the individuals managed to evade capture, Mayadi was apprehended at the scene.
During the operation, police successfully rescued three cows and one calf from the shed. Additionally, approximately 150 kilograms of processed beef were seized as evidence.
A formal case has been registered at the Bantwal Rural Police Station under Crime No. 172/2022. The charges include violations of Sections 4, 5, 7, and 12 of the Karnataka Prevention and Preservation of Cattle Act, 2020, Section 11(1)(d) of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, and Sections 303(2) and 307 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) Act. An investigation into the matter is currently underway.
The arrested suspect, Mayadi, is being presented before the court to face legal proceedings. Law enforcement agencies have amplified their efforts to locate and apprehend the two suspects who remain at large.
Further investigation revealed that the accused had illegally established a slaughter facility within his residence without obtaining the necessary permits or licenses. Furthermore, the facility was utilizing a domestic electricity supply to conduct its operations. As a result, the police have seized the house and the shed premises pending further investigation.
A comprehensive report detailing the findings of the operation has been submitted to the Assistant Commissioner and Sub-Divisional Magistrate of the Mangaluru Sub-Division, seeking further directives, including the issuance of a confiscation order for the seized property. The Bantwal Police Department has affirmed its commitment to rigorously enforcing laws pertaining to animal welfare and illegal slaughter activities within its jurisdiction.
