Bengaluru North City Corporation Cleanliness Drive: Sarvagnanagar Assembly Constituency Clinches Top Honors

Bengaluru: Sarvagnanagar, the constituency of Energy Minister K. J. George, has emerged victorious in a recent cleanliness drive initiated by the Bengaluru North City Corporation. The campaign, aimed at enhancing the aesthetic appeal and hygiene of the city, culminated in the collection of 599 tonnes of waste and a Rs 1 lakh cash award for the winning constituency.

Minister George expressed his elation at Sarvagnanagar’s achievement, stating, “It is with immense pleasure that I acknowledge Sarvagnanagar’s first-place ranking in this significant cleanliness initiative. Our unwavering commitment is to safeguard public health through stringent cleanliness measures. These efforts will persist within our constituency. I extend my profound gratitude to our dedicated civic workers, whose service is invaluable. I implore the residents of Sarvagnanagar to treat them with the respect and appreciation they rightfully deserve.”

The prize distribution ceremony, marking the culmination of the mass cleanliness drive, was held at Dr. B. R. Ambedkar Bhavan, Yelahanka. Commissioner Pommal Sunil Kumar inaugurated the event, emphasizing the importance of collaborative efforts in maintaining a clean urban environment.

“To foster a clean environment and deliver superior services to our citizenry, the corporation has launched a series of proactive programs,” Commissioner Kumar stated. “Alongside the diligent work of our civic employees, public participation and encouragement are paramount. Our weekly ‘Phone-In’ program, conducted every Friday, serves as a platform to address and resolve citizens’ grievances promptly.”

Extensive Eight-Hour Cleanliness Campaign
On Saturday, the Uttara City Corporation orchestrated an extensive eight-hour cleaning drive, spanning from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The initiative encompassed areas such as Hebbal, Pulakeshinagar, Sarvagnanagar, Yelahanka, Byatarayanapura, Dasarahalli, and Rajarajeshwari Nagar, collectively covering 95 kilometers of roads. The campaign involved the removal of waste, silt, debris, and tree branches, along with the thorough cleaning of drains.

Quantifiable Impact: 599 Tonnes of Waste Removed
The comprehensive cleanliness drive yielded significant results, with a total of 599 tonnes of waste collected and disposed of across the corporation’s seven divisions. This involved the coordinated efforts of 4,200 civic workers, supported by 69 tractors, 70 auto-tippers, and 5 JCB machines.

Key statistics from the campaign include:

  • 275 tonnes of construction debris removed
  • 28 tonnes of old sofas, mats, and unused items were cleared from footpaths
  • 86 tonnes of waste extracted from vacant plots
  • 210 tonnes of dry waste collected

Multi-Departmental Collaboration
The success of the cleanliness drive was attributed to the collaborative efforts of various departments, including Solid Waste Management, Engineering, Road Infrastructure (RI), Health, Traffic Police, Horticulture, Forest, and Lakes Maintenance divisions. Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs), local organizations, and civic groups also played a crucial role in the initiative.

Recognition and Incentives for Officials
To acknowledge and incentivize outstanding performance, inspections were conducted under the supervision of Chief Engineers Ranganath and Yamuna, in conjunction with Resident Welfare Associations and local organizations. The constituencies were evaluated based on the quality of road cleanliness and the efficiency of waste collection.

The winning constituencies and their respective prizes are:
Sarvagnanagar Assembly Constituency – First Prize – Rs 1,00,000
Byatarayanapura Assembly Constituency – Second Prize – Rs 50,000
Yelahanka Assembly Constituency – Third Prize – Rs 25,000

Consolation prizes were also awarded to various divisions in recognition of their contributions.

The event was attended by key officials, including Additional Commissioner Amresh H, Joint Commissioner Mohammad Naeem Momin, Chief Engineers Ranganath and Yamuna, Deputy Commissioners Mangalagowri and Prakash, Executive Engineers, Assistant Executive Engineers, Solid Waste Management Engineers, Health Department staff, and numerous civic workers.
