Byndoor, Kaup, Brahmavar get Taluk Status, people celebrate

 

Udupi/Bengaluru: Karnataka Government on Wednesday announced the creation of 49 new taluks in 21 districts and allocated funds for creating infrastructure in those Taluks. Kaup, Brahmavar, Byndoor of Udupi district and Kadaba and Moodbidri of Dakshina Kannada district are also included in the announcement.

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, who is also in-charge of the Finance Department, presenting the 2017-18 budget said, “Based on the reports submitted to the government in recent years, demand from public and due to the geographical factors, it has created 49 new taluks”.

The new Taluks created are Brahmavar, Kaup, Byndoor (Udupi district), Moodbidri, Kadaba (Dakshina Kannada), Guledgudda, Rabakavi-Banahatti, Ilkal (Bagalkot district), Nippani, Moodalgi, Kagwada (Belgaum), Hanoor (Chamarajnagar), Nymathi (Davanagere), Chitaguppa, Hulasur, Kamalanagara (Bidar), Kurugod, Kottur, Kampli (Bellary), Annigeri, Alnavara, Hubli City (Dharwad), Gajendragad, Lakshmeshwar (Gadag), Kalagi, Kamalapura, Yadravi, Shahabad (Kaburburgi), Hunasagi Vadagera, Gurumitkal (Yadgir), Kuknur, Kanakagiri, Karatagi (Koppal), Maski, Sirvar (Raichur); Yelahanka (Bangalore Urban), Bableshwar, Nidagundi, Tikota, Devarahippargi, Talikote, Chadachana and Kolhar (Bijapur), Rattihalli (Haveri), Saraguru (Mysuru), Ajjampura (Chikkmagaluru), Dandeli (Uttarkannada), KGF (Kolar).

In the year 2013, the BJP government led by Jagadish Shettar had announced the formation of 43 new taluks including Brahmavar, Byndoor (Udupi district) and Moodbidri, Kadaba (Dakshina Kannada). The Congress Government led by Siddaramaiah which came to power dropped the proposal on the creation of the 43 new taluks. Many associations in Byndoor and Brahmavar demanded the government to announce taluk status during the budget. The leaders of both Byndoor and Brahmavar region were unhappy that their demands were not fulfilled and went ahead with protests.

Meanwhile, Kaup MLA Vinay Kumar Sorake also showed keen interest to give Taluk status to his Kaup constituency. In January he began a campaign holding the Bike rally, Padayatra and finally succeed to get the taluk status to his constituency.

Finally in the present budget Chief Minister Siddaramaiah announced the creation of Byndoor, Brahmavar, and Kaup as Taluks. Hearing the good news, the taluk formation movement committee, the people and the people’s representatives expressed their joy through celebrations.
