DMK councillor, meeting organiser booked over slur against TN CM Vijay

Chennai: Police have registered a case against two DMK leaders, councillor Sudha Deenadayalan and Muralidharan, the party’s meeting organiser, following a complaint that she made derogatory remarks against Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay at a public meeting in Chennai.

The case was registered at the B-2 Esplanade police station against Sudha and Muralidharan, who organised the October 7 meeting, after TVK functionary Udhayakumar lodged a complaint over the speech.

The controversy centres on remarks in which Sudha allegedly referred to Vijay repeatedly as a “dog” while criticising his government.

Video clips of the speech have circulated widely on social media, drawing protests from TVK members and intensifying exchanges between the ruling party and the opposition DMK.

In his complaint, Udhayakumar alleged that the councillor had used objectionable and defamatory language against the Chief Minister. He also sought action against Muralidharan in connection with the organisation of the programme.

Police subsequently registered a case against both. Details of the legal provisions invoked and further investigative steps were not immediately available.

TVK members have also criticised senior DMK leaders who attended the meeting, alleging that they failed to intervene when Sudha made the remarks.

According to the party, Chennai Mayor Priya, MP Kanimozhi and former Minister P.K. Sekarbabu were present on the dais. The ruling party alleged that their failure to object to the language amounted to allowing the attack to continue. That allegation forms part of TVK’s criticism of the meeting and has not been independently established.

The remarks were made during a speech accusing the Vijay government of failing to fulfil its promises.

Sudha also alleged that the administration was continuing the subsidy and welfare programmes introduced during the previous government headed by M.K. Stalin. However, her language against the Chief Minister became the principal focus of the controversy, with TVK supporters sharing extracts from the speech and demanding police action.

The registration of the case follows those protests and the formal complaint submitted at the Esplanade station. The complaint concerns both the alleged remarks and the organiser’s role in arranging the event.

While police have initiated proceedings against the two named individuals, the information available does not indicate whether either has been questioned or summoned. No response from Sudha or Muralidharan to the allegations was available in the material provided on the case.
