  • The Event marks the start of a 12-day, 12-hour and 12-minute Guinness World Records title attempt

Mangaluru: The much-awaited First World Konkani Music Mega Convention (FWKMMC), featuring an ambitious Guinness World Records title attempt, was inaugurated by Goa Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant at Town Hall, Mangaluru, on November 3, 2026.

The inaugural ceremony began with the traditional lighting of the lamp by Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant, accompanied by the Bishop of the Diocese of Mangaluru, Dr. Peter Paul Saldanha, formally marking the commencement of this landmark celebration of Konkani music and culture.

Organised by Mandd Sobhann as part of its Ruby Jubilee celebrations, the First World Konkani Music Mega Convention, titled Po’ylo Vishv Konknni So’ngeet Mo’hame’ll, aims to bring together Konkani music lovers, singers, composers and cultural groups from across the world.

The highlight of the convention is a Guinness World Records title attempt for the longest singing marathon by multiple singers. Titled “Konko’nni Niro’ntori – So’msar So’raso’ri” (Eternal Konkani – Unto the World’s End), the marathon is scheduled to feature an uninterrupted musical journey lasting 12 days, 12 hours and 12 minutes, from November 3 to November 15, 2026, at Town Hall, Mangaluru.

The ambitious attempt is expected to bring together more than 6,789 singers, who will perform over 4,500 Konkani songs composed by more than 250 composers. Around 300 teams are scheduled to participate, with each team performing for one hour. The organisers have made arrangements to ensure that no singer or song is repeated throughout the marathon.

The convention has attracted participants from various parts of India and overseas, including Australia, Kuwait, Oman and Qatar, reflecting the global reach of the Konkani-speaking community and its shared passion for music.

Established in 1986, Mandd Sobhann is one of the leading Konkani cultural organisations and has played a significant role in promoting and preserving the Konkani language, literature, theatre, music and cultural traditions. The organisation’s Ruby Jubilee celebrations have been given a special dimension through this ambitious international musical initiative.

The mega convention will feature a wide range of musical, cultural and academic programmes, providing a platform for both established and emerging artists to showcase their talents. It also seeks to bring together different Konkani-speaking communities, celebrate their shared cultural identity and encourage younger generations to remain connected with their language and heritage.

The event is dedicated to the memory of the late Eric Ozario, Gurkar of Mandd Sobhann, whose contributions to Konkani music and cultural development have left a lasting legacy. His vision and commitment to promoting Konkani culture continue to inspire the organisation’s initiatives.

The First World Konkani Music Mega Convention is more than just a musical celebration; it is an effort to unite Konkani-speaking people across geographical boundaries through the universal language of music. With hundreds of participating teams, thousands of songs, and an uninterrupted musical marathon, the event aims to bring Konkani music to the international stage.

The convention will continue at Town Hall, Mangaluru, until November 15, 2026.
