Indian Masters Weightlifting Team Wins Eight Medals at Germany Open World Championship; Felicitated by Union Sports Minister

New Delhi: The Indian Masters Weightlifting Federation brought pride to the nation with a commendable performance at the Germany Open World Championship, where the team secured eight medals on the international stage. The achievement reflects the athletes’ discipline, determination, and competitive spirit, marking another significant milestone for India in Masters weightlifting.

To honour this impressive success, Union Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya felicitated the medal-winning athletes at a special ceremony in New Delhi. Uday Shetty, Secretary General of the Indian Masters Weightlifting Federation, along with members of the victorious Indian contingent, attended the event.

Addressing the gathering, Dr. Mandaviya congratulated the athletes for their outstanding performance and praised their commitment to representing the country with excellence. He lauded their perseverance and dedication, noting that their achievements serve as an inspiration for sportspersons across age groups. The Minister also extended his best wishes for the team’s future competitions and reaffirmed the Government of India’s resolve to promote and strengthen Master’s weightlifting across the country.

The Indian Masters Weightlifting team is now preparing for its next major international challenge—the World Masters Weightlifting Championship, scheduled to be held in Greece from September 17 to 26, 2026. The athletes are undergoing rigorous training to build on their recent success and add further laurels to India’s sporting achievements.

In another important development for the discipline, India has been awarded the hosting rights for the 2027 Asian Masters Weightlifting Championship. Welcoming the announcement, Dr. Mandaviya expressed confidence in India’s capability to organise the prestigious continental event successfully and assured full government support for its smooth execution.

The Indian Masters Weightlifting Federation said it remains committed to promoting the sport, supporting veteran athletes, and enhancing India’s presence in international Masters weightlifting events. With strong institutional backing and continued competitive progress, the federation aims to achieve greater success in the coming years.
