Miscreants Hung ‘Rani Abbakka Flyover’ Banner & Scribble ‘Bajrang Dal’ Words on Thokkuttu Flyover

Mangaluru : Following close on its heels after miscreants on Tuesday, 2 June had hung a banner of ‘Veer Savarkar flyover’ and also had graffiti of ‘Bajrang Dal’ words on Kankanady Flyover, which was quickly removed after the images of the banner and graffiti was posted on social media (Ref: Banner on Pumpwell Flyover ‘Veer Savarkar Melsethuve Pumpwell’ Disappears after Photo goes Viral on Social Media )- now once gain, late last night, on Wednesday, 3 June, a banner reading ‘Rani Abbakka flyover’ and scribbling of ‘Bajrang Dal’ words/messages were seen on the Thokkuttu Flyover- and after the same was posted on social media by the saffron group, the concerned authorities have removed the banner/ graffiti from the sidewalls of the flyover.

This act was done by the miscreants few hours after former state minister and MLA U T Khader had held a press meet condemning those who placed ‘Veer Savarkar Flyover’ banner on the Pumpwell Flyover saying, “Kankanady Pumpwell Flyover should be named after Mahaveer because there was a 26ft Kalasha installed earlier in that vicinity. It’s appropriate that Kankanady flyover be named after Mahaveer, and naming after Veer Savarkar will be an insult to the Dakshina Kannada district. Those who placed the banner and the printer should be arrested and charged. Some miscreants have done this to create a controversy in Mangaluru. The local MLA, MP and District Minister In-charge have to find out those behind it. If they fail to arrest the culprits, it will send a wrong message to the society about their involvement”. As mentioned by the saffron group on social media, it says that many freedom fighters have sacrificed their lives for India’s Freedom, and those memories which still exist, should be highlighted and important roads/bridges/flyover should be named after such freedom fighters. The organization quoted on social media also “You will come in darkness and steal, but the name of the patriots is eternal,” . Apart from the banners on Thokkuttu flyover, and earlier on Pumpwell flyover, a banner was also seen hung on the Nehru Maidan railing which read ‘Koti Chennayya Central Maidan’ .
