Moodbidri: Police Raid Illegal Cockfight Den; Six Arrested

Moodbidri: Police raided an illegal cockfighting den and arrested six persons in Moodbidri, under the Mangaluru City Police Commissionerate limits.

According to police, the raid occurred on March 18 in Moodumarnadu village in the Hoyipaalebettu area after they received information that a group had gathered for an illegal cockfight following a local fair.

During the raid, police found that the accused had tied sharp blades to the roosters’ legs and were making them fight while betting money on the outcome. Police took six people present at the scene into custody.

Police also seized 17 live roosters, two sharp blades, and Rs 1,480 in cash allegedly used for betting.

A case has been registered under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita along with provisions of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, and further investigation is underway.
