NIPM Mangaluru Chapter Inaugurates Free Health Camp on Workers’ Day
Mangaluru: In a heartfelt tribute to Workers’ Day celebrated on May 1st, the National Institute of Personnel Management (NIPM) Mangaluru Chapter, in collaboration with Utkarsh Charitable and Welfare Trust and other local associations, organized a free health check-up camp specifically for workers in the unorganized sectors, with a special focus on Tanker and truck drivers. The event took place today at a venue graciously provided by Arya Fire and Safety Organization, Mangaluru.
The camp was inaugurated by Shri M.S. Mahadev, Deputy Director of Factories, Division – 1, Mangaluru. In his address, he extended warm wishes to all attendees on Workers’ Day and emphasized his department’s commitment to partnering with organizations like NIPM that are dedicated to the upliftment of the working class.
Another distinguished guest, Ms. Nazma Farooq, Assistant Commissioner of Police (Traffic), Mangaluru, engaged with participants regarding essential topics such as road safety and health awareness, highlighting the importance of maintaining well-being while on the road.
Shri Manoj Kumar A., Chief General Manager of Administration at MRPL, also graced the occasion as a guest of honor. He commended the organizers for their initiative on this significant day, stating, “A healthy society is built on the foundation of healthy workers.” He encouraged all workers, particularly those in unorganized sectors and migrant workers, to take full advantage of the health services provided.
Adding to the significance of the event, Shri Varun Chowta, Corporator of MCC, Mangaluru, remarked on the meaningful nature of the program in a region with a substantial population of unorganized workers. He highlighted the stark differences between organized and unorganized sector workers and stressed the necessity of such health initiatives for those who often lack the opportunity to seek medical attention.
The health camp offered a comprehensive range of services, including general medicine consultations, blood sugar check-ups, orthopedics, ECGs, ENT evaluations, skin assessments, and ophthalmology services. Attendees also received free medicines to support their health needs. The event was staffed by an efficient team of doctors and paramedical professionals from Fr.Muller Medical College Hospital, Mangaluru who ensured smooth operations throughout the camp. All the attendees were honoured during the event. More than 100 truck drivers benefited from the program.
Mr. Steevan Pinto, Chairman of NIPM Mangaluru Chapter, warmly welcomed the gathering, while Dr. Laxmish Rai, Honorary Secretary, expressed gratitude in his vote of thanks. The event was further supported by Executive Committee members Mr. Ronald Mascharenhas, Mr. Shyamlal, and Dr. Sebastin K.V., who were present to lend their support.
Adding a touch of enthusiasm to the proceedings, Mr. Manjunath, an MSW student from Roshni Nilaya, served as the compere for the event. Additionally, students from the School of Social Work, Roshni Nilaya and NITTE Deemed to be University volunteered their time and efforts to ensure the success of the camp.
This initiative by NIPM Mangaluru Chapter not only underscores the importance of health awareness among workers but also reflects a strong commitment to fostering community well-being.
