Praveen Poojary Murder Case; Judicial Custody extended till September 28

Udupi: The 21 accused who were involved in the murder of BJP activist Praveen Poojary were produced before the court on September 15.

The 21 accused namely Srikanth Santhekatte (19), Pradeep Kalthur (22), Sudeep Shivapura (20), Kalthur Pradeep (19), Umesh Naik Karje, Aravind Koteshwar (37), Raghavendra Kuchur (22), Prakash Naik Mandadi, Sukumar Hebri (22), Sukesh Kokkarne (32), Prakash Achar Benegal (30), Shantharam Cherkadi (21), Manjunath Cherkadi (20), Pradeep Achar Benegal, Dinesh Mogaveera Benegal, Sudeep Shetty Shivapura, Sandeep Poojary (25), Prateek, (19), and Mahesh (22) were produced before the chief Judicial Magistrate by Investigation officer Joy Antony.

After the hearing, the chief Judicial Magistrate extended the Judicial Custody till September 28.

Local BJP leader Praveen Poojary was beaten to death on August 17 night for transporting cattle in a tempo from Kajke in Nalkur village. On August 17 night , Ramesh had approached Praveen Poojary to rent his vehicle to transport calves, for which Praveen readily agreed.

A group of 25 Hindu Jagarana Vedike activists, aged between 20 and 25, attacked Akshay and Praveen. Later they dumped Praveen near his house and informed the police. The Brahmavar Police, who arrived at the spot, shifted Praveen to the hospital where he breathed his last. The culprits also attacked Akshay Devadiga who had accompanied Praveen. The Brahmavar Police later in a swift operation arrested 21 persons involved in the crime.
