Suchitra Krishnamoorthi recalls being scolded by Kundan Shah on ‘Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa’ set
Mumbai: Actress and singer Suchitra Krishnamoorthi is still fondly remembered by movie buffs as the beloved ‘Anna’ from the 1994 release, “Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa” even after more than 3 decades of release.
Recently, Suchitra shared a fun anecdote from the romantic entertainer during an exclusive conversation with IANS.
She revealed that director Kundan Shah once scolded her on the set, saying that she better work hard as she had been cast only because she looked like the part.
She was asked, “Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa has completed thirty-two years. What do you think is the magic behind the film’s enduring popularity?”
Applauding filmmaker Kundan Shah for bringing out the innocence in every character, Suchitra told IANS, “I do not know if I can call it magic, but it was certainly Kundan Shah’s magic. It was his storytelling and the innocence he captured in every character, whether it was Shah Rukh’s character, Deepak’s character or Ashutosh’s character. The story felt very natural and relatable. Every film has its own destiny, and I am simply grateful that I was a part of it.”
Sharing an incident from the shooting days of “Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa”, she went on to add, “I still remember Kundan Shah telling me, “Suchitra, can you work a little harder? You are here because you look the part, because you resemble Anna, but it would be better if you also worked harder.” Those memories remain very special.”
Backed by Vikram Mehrotra, the drama saw Shah Rukh Khan, Deepak Tijori, and Naseeruddin Shah as the lead, along with Rita Bhaduri, Satish Shah, Anjan Srivastav, Goga Kapoor, Ravi Baswani, Tiku Talsania, Ashutosh Gowarikar, Kurush Deboo, and Aditya Lakhia in supporting roles.
For the unaware, Shah Rukh has even bought the rights to the film under his banner, Red Chillies Entertainment.
