He said, “We should work towards building a healthy democracy which respects and follows law. Democracy cannot be replaced by any other system, constructive criticism is part of democracy. Rule of the law is the prime factor of democracy which upholds the interest of the people. We have to possess intellectual capacity to practice fundamental rights.”

Answering to a question raised by a student on the reservation system still prevailing in the Indian society, Justice Nayak said that the laws were formulated keeping in mind the interest of the group and not of individuals. “We can still find many posts vacant in the government sector having the reservation system,” he added.

Principal of the college, Dr B Jagadish Shetty presided over the function. Rotarian Allen V Lewis (Assistant Governor of Rotary district zone 2), Devadas Shettigar (President of Rotary Ambalpadi), Poornima Shetty (President of Human Rights Federation of India Udupi), Dinesh Beedu, Dinesh Bhat, Kolladi Balakrishna Rai and others were present.
