The programme began with an invocation. V S Ummer, secretary of the association, welcomed the gathering. Dr Sandeep Shenoy, president for Indian Medical Association Udupi (Karavali Branch), inaugurated the programme.

In his inaugural message, Dr Sandeep Shenoy said that since blood cannot be produced through artificial methods, donating blood at the right time could save lives and should be considered sacred. “There is a necessity of creating awareness about blood donation in order to bridge the gap between the requirement and availability. Sandeep Shenoy requested the public to come forward to donate blood. Moreover, a person who has donated once can donate again after six months,” he said.

Kallianpura Abdul Gafoor presided over the function. Dr Laxmi of KMC Manipal, Haji Budan Basha (president of Jamia Mosque Udupi), K Abdulla Parkala (president of Masmid A Manipal) and others were present.
