West Bengal Native Arrested for Theft from Vacant Houses in Karkala

Karkala: Karkala Rural Police have apprehended a 39-year-old man from West Bengal, identified as Manotosh Kayal, on charges of breaking into and stealing from locked, vacant houses within the jurisdiction of the Karkala Rural Police Station.

Kayal, son of Dhananjay Kayal and a native of Anandapur, Poorbapad, Lakshbagal Gosabha, Parganas district, West Bengal, was residing at Malali Cross, Pogaru Village, Ganjimath, Mangaluru, Dakshina Kannada District at the time of his arrest.

Police sources indicate that Kayal allegedly engaged in a pattern of identifying houses left locked and unoccupied for extended periods during morning reconnaissance. He would then forcibly gain entry by breaking the locks and commit theft. A case was registered at the Karkala Rural Police Station under Crime No. 163/25, invoking Sections 331(3) and 305 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS)–2023. Initial reports suggest that Kayal had stolen a battery from one of the targeted residences.

Following a thorough investigation, the Karkala Rural Police successfully apprehended Kayal. He was subsequently presented before the Hon’ble Court, which ordered him to be held in judicial custody pending further proceedings.

The operation was conducted under the guidance of Karkala Sub-Divisional Police Officer Prabhu D.T. and under the leadership of Karkala Circle Inspector Manjappa. The police team involved in the arrest included PSI Prasanna M.S., PSI Sundar, ASI Prakash, ASI Sundar Gowda, Head Constables Rudresh and Chandrashekar, Police Constables Santosh and Manthesh, and District CDR staff member Dinesh.
