It Rained Cats & Dogs with Thunderous ‘Thunder’ and Dazzling ‘Lightning’ in the City

Mangaluru: When is the last time you might have experienced torrential rain along with thunder and lightning in the month of November? Probably not! Friday, 23 November 2018, around 8.30 pm, Mangaluru City was lashed with torrential rain along with thunderous “Thunder” and Dazzling “Lightning”, which took motorists and pedestrians, and citizens in surprise. As of 9. 30 pm it was still raining with thunder and lightning.

Gloomy sky late in the evening led to heavy downpour past 8:30 pm. Water logs, traffic jams- this was the typical rainy night on the night of 23 November in Mangaluru. The incessant rain that soaked Mangaloreans might have broken the all-time record, especially during the month of November. It was certainly a wet November night for the city of Mangaluru. The Mangaluru sky has been gloomy and overcast for the last several days due to the low-pressure area over the Arabian Sea and also due to heavy rains in Tamil Nadu, leading to floods and devastation.

Two-wheeler riders who never expected this heavy rains got wet with no raincoats handy, while many pedestrians who had to reach their homes also got wet since they had no umbrellas handy. Only those inside four- wheelers and auto-rickshaws were safe from getting wet. There were two outdoor wedding receptions in the City which were completely washed out. Indeed a keep-sake memory for the Bride and Bridegroom of their wet Wedding reception? This was not a good Friday night either for the revelers who were looking for a night out at a pub or a lounge. The rain ruined their plans and fun spree. The heavy rains filled with thunder and lightning even sent the strays running for shelter, shivering and scared. The pouring rain even flooded the streets, with water overflowing from the ‘Not well planned” drainage of Smart City?

But there was something awe-inspiring about walking outside and looking up during a thunderstorm, especially tonight. The boom of the thunder, the crack of lightning, and the roiling black clouds all work together to create a sense of largeness that simply engulfs you. Watching lightning from a distance was a gorgeous experience and when someone captured it via photography they could re-live it over and over. 100 bolts of lightning hitting the Earth every single second, that’s amazing and scary too! If you saw something like this in person, where this much lightning struck at a single instance, you had better start praying?

So 23 November 2018 will surely be a night to be remembered- a Night of Dazzling Lightning, Thunderous Thunder and Heavy Rain!
