The sixth additional district and sessions court had ruled him guilty and reserved its decision over the quantum of punishment. On Wednesday, the court gave its judgement by sentencing Parameshwar to seven years in jail and making him liable to pay Rs 10,000 as fine. Another three months’ jail has been handed out for the breach of trust.

Judge D T Puttarangaswamy further ruled that if he failed to pay the fine, he should undergo another three months’ jail. Of the fine amount, Rs 8,000 should be paid to the victim. He instructed that she be rehabiliated with suitable compensatory measures through the Legal Services Authority.

During the court proceedings, the accused pleaded that he had aged parents at home and that he was the only support to the family. Hence he requested that he be shown lenience.
