Manipal: GTTC to be set up in district to promote employment generation – Satish Jarkiholi

Manipal: The Government Tool Room and Training Centre (GTTC) will be established in the district costing Rs 40 crore to cater employment generation, said Satish Jarkiholi, Minister for Small Scale Industries. He was on a visit to the District Industries Centre at Rajathadri here, on September 15.

The training centre will be initially setup at a cost of Rs 10 crore in Uppoor and will be later upgraded. The centre guarantees 100% placement and will boost employment in the district. Three other centers will be setup in Yadgiri, Chitradurga and Ghokak.

The government of Karnataka has released a new industrial policy for 2014-19 which has ample opportunities for investors to invest in Karnataka. The policy aims at generating employment along with economic development. Relaxation and exemptions in the policy have been attracting investors. The government, to promote women empowerment, is providing a subsidy of Rs 40 lakhs to 1 crore, he added.

The minister also interacted with the industrialists of the district. The representatives of the District Small Industries Association, Udupi handed over a memorandum to the minister.

The association in their memorandum urged the minister to abolish electricity tax on SSIunits as they depend on generator sets due to power interruption. The SSI association demanded the reinstatement of tax free terms for diesel from IOC Baikampady. They also urged for the exemption of payment of stamp duty on transfer of titles of land and building of two proprietary firms who merge as one partnership firm or two partnership firms merging into a single firm.

Women entrepreneurs of POWER (an NGO), to support women empowerment, urged the minister to establish a centre in the district where the products manufactured by women can be easily sold. They also urged the government to support and promote women entrepreneurship development programmes.

The District Industrial Policy was released by Satish Jarkiholi. Vinay Kumar Sorake, Minister for Urban Development and Minister in-charge District; Janardhan Thonse, President of Udupi Urban Development Authority; Chenna Basappa, Additional Deputy-Commissioner and Deputy Director, District Industrial Centre were present.
