Nisha James takes charge as Udupi SP

Udupi: Nisha James took charge as the Superintendent of Police of Udupi district from the out-going Superintendent of Police Laxman Nimbargi at the District Police Office here on Saturday, February 23.

Nisha James is an IPS officer of the 2013 batch. Prior to her transfer as Superintendent of Police of Udupi district, she served as Commandant of the 4th Battalion, KSRP, Bengaluru.

Speaking after taking charge from the outgoing Superintendent of Police Laxman Nimbargi here, on Saturday, Nisha sought the cooperation from the public.

She said the district was in forefront in development. “I am keen to study the district.”

Nisha said she would taken stern action against illegal activities and stressed the need for the better understanding and relationship between the public and the police. “I will take up initiatives exclusively for women and carry forward the phone-in programme to keep in touch with the public and their grievances,” she said.

Nisha, a 2013 batch IPS officer, has served as the Commandant of 4th Battalion, KSRP, Bengaluru and Assistant Superintendent of Police in Chithradurga and Shivamogga districts. She has also served as Superintendent of Police in Raichur district in the past.

Outgoing SP Nimbargi said he was immensely happy with the service he had rendered and the opportunities he received in the district as well as in Dakshina Kannada district where he worked as an ASP.

Nimbargi said he had encountered several challenges, which would help him to lead an effective professional career.

Earlier Nisha James has served as Assistant Superintendent of Police in Chitradurga and Shivamogga districts. She has also served as Superintendent of Police of Raichur district.

Nisha, who hails from Kerala, is a student of Shri Ram College in New Delhi. She has also worked as a journalist before taking up the civil service examinations.

The present SP, Laxman Nimbargi, has been transferred as Superintendent of Police of Wireless Department, Bengaluru.

Nimbargi successfully handled important cases in the district during his one-year tenure since January 1, 2018.
