Pramod Madhwaraj inaugurates state-level Khelo India swimming competition

Udupi: The state-level Khelo India swimming competitions conceived by the Central Government to identify sports talents from rural areas was inaugurated at the District indoor stadium Ajjarkad here on Tuesday, January 10.

Pramod Madhwaraj district minister in-charge and also state sports and youth affairs minister inaugurated the competition by lighting the lamp.
In his message, the minister said that the state government was committed to promoting all sports.

The government has decided to adopt 1000 sportspersons through the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) funds. The selection will be held online and already 662 applications were registered.

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has already promised to give rewards to any sportsperson from Karnataka winning medals at the next Olympics in Tokyo in 2020. Athletes who bring home a gold will be given Rs 5 crore and for those who bring the silver and bronze medals with be given Rs 3 and Rs 2 crore respectively.

The proposed sports policy will be announced in the state government’s next budget. If the policy is announced in the budget, it will have more weight. We have invited sports persons and sports lovers to seek their opinion on drafting the policy. The draft copy of the policy has already been prepared. The chief minister will be announcing the policy in the next budget he added.

Priyanka Mary Francis CEO Udupi Zilla Panchayat, Dr Roshan Kumar Shetty deputy director sports and youth affairs were also present.
