Sparsha Holds Cancer awareness talk at Modankap

Sparsha – Campaign against Cancer, an awareness talk was held at Modankap, for SHG members on August 25. Ms Rita D’Souza, the Coordinator, welcomed the gathering.


Ms Shilpa D’Souza spoke on cancer. In her talk, she mentioned the various types of cancer and its causes. She stated that tobacco increases heart rate and blood pressure. Due to the consumption of tobacco, more than 10 lakh people die every year. Participants were advised not to consume tobacco products, junk food, and to stop drinking alcohol. They were advised to do exercise like walking, jogging and yoga, which could help them to stay healthy. Consuming organic vegetables and fruits would also help in remaining healthy. In the end, she stated there are many people who have battled against cancer and won! Therefore, we should not lose hope in life, because, through self-confidence, anything can be achieved.

Ms Shilpa also spoke about the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic. She advised the participants to follow social distancing, Wear the mask and also use sanitizers regularly. By following this, we can control the disease up to a certain extent.

After the session, Food kits were distributed by the Parish Priest of Modankap Fr. Valerian, to all SHG members present. Food-kits were sponsored by the Buddhist Tzu Chi Foundation and Snehasadan, Kinnikambla. A total of 26 participants attended the programme.
