Mithun Rai back in Action for Campaign – Assembly elections 2018
The Congress Party Nurtured and made me a Youth Leader – Mithun Rai
Mangaluru: “Three years ago Abhaychandra Jain called me and asked me to work for the Mulky- Moodbidri constituency. I worked for the constituency at the same time I was an aspirant for the Moodbidri constituency. When the ticket was denied I was in pain but after meeting AICC President Rahul Gandhi I realized that I need to actively take part in the campaign to win in all the 8 constituencies. Congress party has made me a youth leader and the youth congress will work hard for victory in Dakshina Kannada,” said the District Youth Congress President Mithun Rai in a Press meet held at the DCC office Mallikatta here on April 26.
Addressing the media persons Mithun Rai said, “I have been elected as the president continuously for three terms. So far I have not asked for any post nor have I applied for it. I was an aspirant to contest the forthcoming Assembly elections from Mulky- Moodbidri constituency but when the list was released the youth congress members were disappointed. I was also deeply hurt since I had worked for the Moodbidri constituency for three years which is natural. But when I met Rahul Gandhi in Delhi he convinced me that the MLA ticket was not my cup of tea.”
Mithun Rai further said, “I never ever said that party has done injustice to me. I was born in a Doctors family and was recognized as Dr Mahabala Rai’s son. But after I joined the Congress party, I have been known to the people as Congress Youth leader. Congress has given me the District President’s post continuously for three terms. Congress party has nurtured me and made me as the youth leader. Our aim is to win the elections in all the 8 constituencies and retain the Congress Government in Karnataka. In 2019, we the youth Congress want Rahul Gandhi as the Prime minister of this country and we will work hard for it.”
Mithun Rai also said, “Rahul Gandhi has given me an opportunity to work in the national congress and it is more than an MLA ticket. I will work in the national congress because it is a golden opportunity for me and the youth congress.”
When asked why the youth congress leaders had resigned and said that they are waiting for Mithun Rai to take decision and if he joins any other party they too would follow, Mithun Rai said, “As soon as the list of the candidates was released, I was hurt and I was not reachable to any of the youth leaders/members. I was with D K Shivakumar and was campaigning for him. I had also met Rahul Gandhi and when I was back from Delhi, members of the youth Congress had gathered in large numbers at the airport. I was shocked and overwhelmed by their presence at the airport, I then came to know that they had resigned. I convinced all the youth leaders to withdraw their resignations and start working for the election campaign”.
DCC President Harish Kumar, U B Venkatesh, Prasad Malli, Kiran Budleguthu, Varunraj Ambat, Girish Alva, Utham Alva and others were also present.
