To 62 Teachers With LOVE from 930 Gonzagaites on ‘Teachers Day’ at St Aloysius Gonzaga School, Mangaluru held on Thursday, 5 September at the School Mega Hall.

Mangaluru: “You took time to listen and to hear, to laugh, to just be there! ” – Teachers are more than automaton instructors, pounding away on the chalkboard all day. They are mentors and inspirations, and Teacher’s Day is all about appreciating your teachers – it’s a day when students remember to go up to their teachers and tell them how much they appreciate them. And that’s exactly what the 930 plus students from Pre-KG to X std belonging to St Aloysius Gonzaga CBSE School, Mangaluru did by expressing their love and gratitude to their “Teachers” by organizing a “Teacher’s Day” bash filled with tributes, prayers, songs, games, and dance.

Teachers have always been the guiding force for the students, who have inspired them to move ahead and achieve much in life. “Teachers Day” is the right time for the students to express their feelings of thankfulness and gratitude towards the teachers. It is a time when students show their affection to them. A teacher is someone who inspires you, encourages you and makes you capable enough to face all the odds of life. This is why a special day, known as “Teachers Day”, is dedicated to teachers, providing students the perfect chance to honor them. A true teacher is not someone who just teaches academic lessons to his/her students. Rather, he/she is like a guide, who helps the students in each and every sphere of life, by giving the right advice. They are future makers. None of the achievers in this world has attained a feat without the guidance of a teacher. ‘Teachers Day’ is a special occasion for students to honor their teachers and thanking them for being the guiding light in their lives.

Apart from being the day when the students gave recognition to their teachers’ hard work, the celebration also brought out a healthy interaction between students and teachers, wherein the latter recognized the teaching capability of the former. The thoughtful and respectful “Teachers Day” celebrations reflected the fact that the students cared for their beloved teachers- and in response, the teachers appreciated what the students did for them on this “Day”. The ceremonious occasion was celebrated with various performances by the students, like music, songs, dance, games, thanksgiving, and so on. And the teachers also actively participated in the proceedings of the event. The cultural programme put up by the students was also coordinated by Parents Teachers Executive Committee members.

The celebrations began with a prayer song, followed by the two comperes namely Miss Kimberly Rodricks and Arfan Ahmed expressing their thoughts and feelings about their Teachers, saying, ” Teachers are a significant part of everyone’s life. They show us the right path and groom us to become a better citizen and a better person. They teach us to face the most difficult challenges of life and get through them, easily. Teacher’s Day is a wonderful opportunity for the students to extend their sincere gratitude to their teachers, for being an influential part of their life. The teachers act as the guide for life, show the path towards success and enrich the personality of their disciples by imparting ethical and academic knowledge. On this “day” we say a big thank you and appreciate everything that the teachers have done to us. May God bless our teachers-our mentors”.

The entire event was organized by the senior Gonzagaites, under the leadership of Head Girl Rhea and Head Boy Noel Binoy. The welcome address was delivered by Rhea; the significance of Teachers Day was briefed by Miss Delicia Pearl, and the vote of thanks was proposed by the Head Girl and Head Boy.  Priya Eustace on behalf of PTEC addressed the audience, and the members presented gifts to all the teachers. A delicious cake was cut to mark the occasion, and cake pieces were shared among the teachers. The School Magazine was released on the occasion. As part of the entertainment put up by the students, it comprised of- Festive Song by seniors; Dance by class X-BTS and mashup; dance by class X girls; dance by Class IX; and the students Band “Oblivion” rocked the stage with Western and Bollywood songs.

In his presidential address, Fr Dionysius Vas SJ- Rector of St Aloysius Institutions said, “I feel proud to say that the students have really put up a great show, and shown their love and gratitude towards their teachers in a unique way. I am also highly impressed with the organizing skills of Head Girl and Head Boy, and when these two come out of college I am ready to offer them a principal or teachers job at our institution. Teachers are founts of experience. They have already been where their students are going, undergone what they will go through and are in a position to pass along lessons, not only regarding subject matter but lessons on life. At St Aloysius Institutions we always care for our teachers and support them”.

Principal Fr Melwyn Lobo SJ said, “Teachers are the heart of the education. My words of appreciation goes to all the energetic and dynamic students who put up a great show to show their gratitude towards their teachers. My thanks also to PTEC for joining the students in their efforts of this event. Teachers’ Day is one such event for which students and teachers equally look forward to. Teachers’ Day is important for the students as it gives them a chance to understand the efforts put in by their teachers to ensure that they get a proper education. Similarly, teachers also look forward to the Teachers’ Day celebration as their efforts get recognized and honoured by students. And that’s exactly we all saw during this great celebration. A job well done by the Senior Gonzagaites”.

Jacintha D’Costa, Vice Principal also graced the occasion. Kudos to Head Girl and Head Boy, the Cabinet leaders and PTEC members for putting up a great show for their beloved teachers. Team Mangalorean wishes all teachers a “Happy Teachers Day” and may God bless you all! Ending this column with the lyrics from the song “In This moment” a tribute song to Teachers by Billy Barker :
