MLA Lobo’s Quote on Shivaji Misinterpreted, Lobo Clarifies
Mangaluru: Muslim organizations are upset on MLA J R Lobo for delivering a speech at the Netravati Hall, Zilla Panchayat premises on February 19 during the Shivaji Jayanti.
Addressing the gathering MLA Lobo recalled the quote “Shivaji’s contemporary, poet Kavi Bhushan had stated: Had not there been Shivaji, Kashi would have lost its culture, Mathura would have been turned into a Mosque. Verily, Islam and Hinduism are terms of contrast. They are used by the true Divine Painter for blending the colours and filling in the outlines. If it is a Mosque, the call to prayer is chanted in remembrance of Him. If it is a Temple, the bells are rung in yearning for Him alone”.
But some Muslim leaders took only a part of the quote “Mathura would have been turned into a Mosque” as MLA Lobo’s personal view and opposing it. Muslim organizations have demanded an apology from MLA Lobo. Former Mayor Ashraf in a press release said, “MLA Lobo forgot that the Muslims have supported him to win the elections. To please the Sangh Parivar, Lobo should not stoop to such a low level which is not good for him. If Lobo will not apologise, Muslim organizations will stage a protest against Lobo”, he warned.
Speaking to mangalorean.com MLA J R Lobo said, “I have only recalled the quote of Poet Kavi Bhushan on Chhatrapati Shivaji and they are not my personal views or my intention to hurt the Muslim community. It is history and I had just recalled it on Shivaji’Jayanti. I do not know why and who created this misunderstanding about the quote. I have never hurt any community since I treat everyone equally because we all are Indians.”
Lobo also said, “After I delivered my speech I left to attend another programme. Again I say that my intention is not to harm any individual or any community. If anyone is annoyed by my speech I apologise”.

This is great. The vote bank politics has come full circle!! This incident shows how congress leaders will never dare to speak truth. If they ever dare to quote some historical facts or figures, they would be forced to apologize as we witnessed in this case!! How sad!! This is exactly what one ‘mathew’ tried to explain using ‘biriyaani’ example prior to 2014 elections. Many including joker failed to understand his point due to ignorance and generations of hatred towards Hindus. No wonder why these congress characters never dare to comment on pak based terrorism or ISIS.

As I have seen in these four years of Lobo’s tenure, I found him transparent, humble and a committed politician. Why are his own party men trying to defame him? We need such leaders for the development of the district. Congress party workers should appreciate his work and humbleness.
