Kolkata (ANI) : Social activist Saraswati Ghosh dubbed the Mangalore moral policing incident as ‘shocking and unfortunate’ and said that the people should instead react with the same force when it comes to incidents of eve-teasing.

“The boy was not being violent with the girl. He was friendly and was not harming her in any way. In such a case, it is no one’s business to interfere,” said Ghosh.

She also said that it would be of greater benefit if the people rather than indulging in such acts start reacting to incidents of eve teasing.

“In eve teasing incidents, the people often keep quiet. This is shocking,” she added.

According to reports, suspected members of a Hindutva group stripped the minority youth, tied him to a pole and assaulted him publically near Attavar area of Mangalore on Monday evening.

The police has reportedly arrested 14 out of the 30 suspected persons in connection with the case.

“That is too bad. Every citizen of this country has got a fundamental right to move in the society anywhere from Kashmir to Kanyakumari and it does not prohibit that they must be moving with their own community people and it does not say that they should not move with people of other communities… What has been done in Mangalore is prohibitive,” Nesargi told ANI.
