MESCOM Lineman Dies of Lightning Hit while Working on Transformer

Puttur: It is a vagary of nature that while the coastal strip of the district is facing a severe scarcity of water, inland towns and villages ironically have witnessed the loss of lives as a result of lightning and flash rains.

Vishwanath Naikodi (22), a power lineman working for MESCOM in Kadaba, met a tragic end while working atop a transformer at Sunkadakatte Berike in Aittur village near Kadaba in Puttur taluk on Tuesday night.

He was the son of Annappa of Kundagooli in Sindhagi taluk in Vijayapura district. He had joined service on 5 months ago.

Since the said transformer had gone out of function on account of rain and lightning some time earlier, he had climbed up to repair it.

While on the job, a sudden streak of lightning hit the transformer direct and he is said to have died of shock on the spot.

A case has been registered in Kadaba police station.
