Puttur: A case of threat to life and murder attempt has been filed against Kannada and Telugu actor Vinod Alva in the Puttur rural police station located at Sampya.

Alva hails from Kutyala near Ishwaramangala in the taluk and has been engaged in agricultural farming there. Over the past years, one Sachidananda, son of Ram Patali, has been looking after the financial matters and maintaining accounts related to Alva’s property. He held a power of attorney too from Alva.

Somehow, Sachidananda was not happy that the perks and benefits were not commensurate with his responsibilities. Hence he returned the power of attorney in March earlier this year and parted ways with him.

But his dues had not been paid and hence he filed a private complaint in a court against Alva. It is in the process of being heard.

Since then, Sachidananda has been pursuing his own farming. On Nov 15, he was riding his scooter to supply milk to a local cooperative in Ishwaramangala, a jeep approaching from the other direction hit his vehicle.

The jeep was being driven by Vinod Alva’s driver Udaya Chekkittaya. Sensing danger to his life, Sachidananda escaped from the spot. He was of the firm opinion that Chekkittaya did it under orders from Alva.

He filed a complaint of threat to life and attempt to murder against Alva and Chekkittaya in the rural police station. The police reportedly did not pay heed to it, owing to political pressure. The complainant is said to have taken the matter to the SP of the district.

In a flash action, SP Dr Sharanappa, accompanied by circle inspector Mahesh Prasad and rural sub inspector B S Ravi, went to the house of Alva around 4-30 am on Nov 16 and took him into custody. Further details were not available. He was said to have been taken to an unidentified place for questioning.

Police sources said that about two decades ago, Alva had been engaged in activities like threats and high-handedness. The then SI at the Sampya station, K C Ashokan, had taken strict measures against him and brought him under control. Thereafter he got into films and changed his base to Bengaluru and earned fame.
