‘Within 24 Hours CM should Suspend Police Officers responsible for Violence in Mluru’- HDK

Mangaluru: “The Central Government has taken the decision to implement NRC and CAB but the people are protesting against the implementation of the bill. Karnataka is a very peaceful state and the people of this state live in harmony and brotherhood. People here are protesting against the government for implementing CAB and NRC. On December 13, Gulbarga protested peacefully against the CAB. But in Mangaluru the curfew was imposed. I have come here to access the situation and to meet the families of the deceased, I did not come here to play politics. There is no communal violence here but a fight between the police and the public. I visited the family members of Jalil and Nausheen who lost their lives in the police firing on December 19 and consoled them. I also visited the hospital to enquire about the health condition of those injured in the police firing. The police did not give any information about those injured in the firing”, said former CM H D Kumaraswamy in a press meet held at Hotel Motimahal here on December 22.

Addressing the mediapersons H D Kumaraswamy said, “CM Yediyurappa came to Mangaluru in a hurry, held meetings with the officials, came to the Circuit house and went back. He did not even had the courtesy to visit the families of the deceased On December 21. The Chief Minister did not even visit the hospital and enquire about the injured. Without collecting any information about the injured he went back. Through media I would like to ask, on December 18 morning, some organizations obtained permission to hold a protest on December 19. But on the same day, December 18 evening section 144 was imposed. The CM held a video conference with the police officers and ordered to impose section 144. Some officers during the video conference said that they have already given permission to hold the protest and asked for some time to inform the organizers to postpone their protest. The organizations too did not get enough time to inform about the cancellation of protest. On December 19, in Gulbarga, Hassan, Bengaluru there were peaceful protests but only in Mangaluru, there was violence. Mangaluru was peaceful in the morning, but in the afternoon without getting any information people had gathered in front of the DC office to protest.”

HDK further said, “In the firing and lathi-charge former Mayor Ashraf was also injured, he is now being treated in the ICU. A student who had come to apply for a scholarship to the DC office was assaulted by the police and his condition now is critical. Why did the police commissioner mislead the people? Jalil had brought his children back from the school and had stepped out of his house gate when he was fired by the police. Does this government have any humanity? During his visit to Mangaluru, the CM had said that he had spoken to DC to provide compensation. The MP of DK says that the Congress are Sadists. But I say that the BJP is a sadist party. Innocent people have been murdered. Nausheen was working as a welder when he was returning home from work he was shot the police. If CM has any humanity, let him suspend the police officers responsible for the violence in Mangaluru.”

HDK also said, “More than 8 persons are admitted to the hospital and their condition is very critical. The CM came to Mangaluru but did he go to the hospital to take any information from the injured? What kind of information has he gathered and from whom? The police barged into the Mosque in Bunder why? I demand the CM if he has any morality, first suspend the police officers and dismiss the home minister as he is unfit to be in power. The police say that the protesters had entered the weapons room and we thought they would misuse the weapons, so we fired at them. But the CM says something else. Another police officer asks one of the police, “you have fired 10 shots but no one has died”. On whose orders did the police officers work? Did they receive orders from the Home minister or from a parallel government run by Kalladka Prabhakar Bhat? If the police would have permitted to protest for 10 minutes such an incident would not have happened in Mangaluru. Suspend the police officers responsible. I have heard that those who died in the firing have also been booked by the police and an FIR has been registered against them”.

Former CM H D Kumaraswamy visited both Jalil and Nausheen’s house and handed over cheques of Rs 5 lakh each to both the families. He also assured of helping the injured who have been admitted in the ICU with severe injuries.

JD(S) state president B M Farooq, Senior leaders M B Sadashiv, MLC Boje Gowda, District Youth JD(S) President Akshith Suvarna and others were also present.

  1. Before Police broke the law, Public broke the Law by violating Section 144 and throwing Stones toward Police. For every action of Mankind, there is Reaction waiting in line. Politicians like Khader and Ravi and other Elected People are Causing turmoil when the situation is already rough for Society, just to get attention for the next Election.
Public has Two Tongues like Snakes, they blame the Police if they do not take action by using one Tongue and use other Tongue to Blame the Police if they take action. Problems could have been worst if Police did not act in time. They did a good job putting their life at risk. Thanks
