Prof. Dr Akhter Husain to Head Karnataka State Oral Health Programme Vision Committee
Mangaluru: Prof. Dr Akhter Husain, MDS, FDSRCPS (Glasgow), has been appointed Chairperson of the Vision Committee for the State Oral Health Programme of the Government of Karnataka under the Department of Health and Family Welfare.
Dr. Akhter, a noted orthodontist and academician, is currently the Director of the Centre for Craniofacial Anomalies. He has also served as Dean and Principal of Yenepoya Dental College, Yenepoya University, and as President of the Indian Orthodontic Society.
The Vision Committee will provide expert guidance to the Karnataka government on strengthening oral healthcare services across the state. Its focus will include preventive oral healthcare, early detection and treatment of oral diseases, improving accessibility to dental care, and integrating oral health into the broader healthcare system.
Dr. Akhter’s appointment comes at a time when greater emphasis is being placed on preventive and comprehensive healthcare, recognising the close link between oral health and overall well-being.
