DK Muslim Organisations Stage Silent Protest Against Sri Lanka Suicide Bombings
Mangaluru: The Dakshina Kannada Zilla Muslim Sanghatanegala Okkuta staged a silent demonstration condemning the Sri Lanka suicide Bombings on Easter Sunday, in front of the DC Office, State Bank here, on April 25.
Addressing the protesters Ashraf said, “We are holding a silent demonstration for fifteen minutes as a sign of solidarity with the innocent victims of the Sri Lanka bomb blast attacks. We also hope that such an attack never takes place anywhere else. All of us want peace. No religion teaches people to kill innocents. We are pained by the attack on the innocents in Sri Lanka. We want to show the innocent victims that we are always there for them, and we wish them all the strength and courage.”
Over 30 members of the organization silently demonstrated before the entrance of the DC Office for fifteen minutes. While a few members held up painful images of the aftermath of the bomb blasts, many members also held up placards that carried stirring slogans such as “Violence Represents Nothing”, “Hatred is Not A Solution”, and “Restore Humanity”.
The organization also sought to deliver a memorandum of condolence to the Deputy High Commission of Sri Lanka, Chennai through the District Commissioner of Dakshina Kannada. The memorandum states that the NGO members “deeply mourn the victims that died in the recent bomb blast and strongly protest against the act of cowardice by the perpetrators and culprits behind the conspiracy.” The memorandum goes on to urge the Sri Lankan Government to file charges against the culprits and terms the attack that occurred at places of worship as “inhuman”.
Sri Lanka also witnessed a minor explosion take place in a town called Pugoda on April 25. However, no casualties were reported from the bomb site. The death toll of the Easter bombings has crossed 350 people and the whole country remains on high alert.
