49-year-old African White Rhino Bheema Dies in Mysuru Zoo

Mysuru: This will be sad news for thousands of animal-lovers and visitors to the world-renowned Mysuru zoo.


Bheema, a male 49-year-old African white rhinoceros, which was a familiar resident, died in the early hours of Wednesday, Mar 9.

It had been brought from Umfolozi National Park, Hanover, Germany on Oct 1, 1971.

It had remained dull, inactive and had been reluctant to take food during the last two days. Being senile, it had almost completed the normal life-span of 45 to 50 years.

Treatments were carried out but it did not respond favourably, but breathed its last.
