Bal Mandir staffer arrested for sending minor inmates to men

Chikkaballapur: Two women, including an outsourced security staffer of the Department of Women and Child Development’s Bal Mandir in Chikkaballapur, were arrested in connection with a scandal where they used to send four minor girls with men late in the night.

The racket has been going on for many months, according to the police.

The suspects, Bhagyamma, the security staffer of DWCD’s Bal Mandir at Nagaratpet in Chikkaballapur, and Sarojamma, a helper at a multi-storey building in the same locality, have booked.

Meanwhile, the police are on the lookout for two of the victims who are missing.

The scandal came to light on March 26 after two victims recorded their statements before the chairperson of the Child Welfare Committee, Chikkaballapur district, Mary Chelladurai that they were sexually assaulted.

Sarojamma stayed in a room on the second floor and sent victims to spend the night with men in different rooms.

The Bal Mandir authorities had sent four victims to a training institute in Kanakapura one-and-half months ago.

“After two of them went missing, the Kanakapura police traced the two to the building in Chikkaballapur after which the racket came to light. The police then sent the four victims back to the Mandir,” a police officer said.

However, two of the victims again went missing.
