Bhaskar Shetty murder case, Police form Special Investigation team to nab Niranjan

Udupi: The district police have formed a special investigation team to nab the astrologer Niranjan Bhat, who is absconding since the murder of Hotelier Bhaskar Shetty.

According to the press release issued by ASP Vishnuvardhan, Bhaskar Shetty was missing since July 28, in this connection his mother Gulabi Shetty had filed a complaint in the Manipal police station on July 30.


In the complaint, Gulabi Shetty had mentioned that the relationship between Bhaskar Shetty and Rajeshwari was not good and they both were not in good terms. Bhasker was coming to India once a year from Saudi Arabia as he was a businessman having business there. Bhasker had a property of crores in value Udupi which he had it in his wife’s name.

When Bhasker was in the gulf, Rajeshwari met Niranjan Bhat who is an astrologer. Niranjan Bhat befriended Rajeshwari. When Bhaskar Shetty came to know about his wife’s illicit relationship with Niranjan Bhat, he decided to separate from his wife. Bhaskar Shetty had even told Rajeshwari that she would not get any share in his property. He also said that he will give his property to his relatives from his mother’s side. Rajeshwari being upset over Bhasker’s decision thought if she would kill her husband, she would own all his property.

Rajeshwari along with her son Navneeth and Niranjan Bhat kidnapped Bhasker and murdered him. After killing they tried to destroy the evidence by burning his body.

A case has been filed against Rajeshwari, Navneeth and Niranjan Bhat under section 302, 201, 120(B), 204 along with 34 IPC. Rajeshwari and Navneeth Shetty were arrested on August 7. Niranjan Bhat has been absconding and search is on to nab him. He will be arrested soon, said ASP Vishnuverdhan.

Under the direction of ASP Vishnuverdhan and the guidance of DySP Udupi Kumarswami, the investigation is being carried out by S V Girish CPI Manipal, Gopalkrishna PSI Manipal, M Rafeeq PSI Karkala Rural, Harish, Femina ASI’s Manipal, Shailesh, Venkatesh, Anil, Ashok Devadiga, and team.
