Gaining Weight and Losing Life – Who was the Mystery Woman Behind?
Beltangady: As reported already, Vinuta (21), daughter of Mohan Nekara of Vinayak Nagar in Ujire, died in suspicious circumstances on Wednesday.
She was to get married to a man called Pratap on Thursday, Mar 31. She worked for a private firm in Ujire. On Mar 26, she began vomiting while at work. Pratap got her admitted to a hospital.
After getting her treated, he had dropped her at her house the same day. She again developed emetic symptoms and her family members took her to the hospital again. After relief was found, she was taken home.
In the early hours of Mar 30, she complained of stomach ache and she was shifted to the hospital again. There she breathed her last later during the day.
A complaint has been filed by her brother Santosh Kumar in Beltangady police station.
She was the youngest of the five children – one male and four female. The houses of Pratap and Vinuta are close to each other.
Both the families were making preparations for the big day. But the tragedy has immersed them in sorrow after the woman’s death.
There are rampant rumours around that an identified woman had given her some tablets to gain weight since she had a thin body frame. She had allegedly fallen ill after the intake of those tablets. But the news is not confirmed.
Yet efforts are being made to trace the woman if at all she did give the deceased any tablets.
Her body was sent to a hospital in Mangaluru. The report of the autopsy alone can reveal the cause of death.
The case bring to fore the hazards of self-medication and also of the miracle drugs blatantly advertised in newspapers with claims of quick weight gain and weight loss, increase in libido and the like.
The department of health and IMA authorities to keep track of such claims and the risks they pose to the public.
