Fisherman Falls off Boat and Drowns near Malpe Port

Udupi: Vithal Tingalaya (45) of Malpe is said to have accidentally slipped off a boat while on a fishing trip on late Thursday night.

He, Janardan Bangera and four others had sailed off aboard ‘Shri Durga’ boat earlier on the day. After food at night, as he was washing his plate, he reportedly slipped off the boat and drowned.

Since then he had gone missing. His body was found at the spot where boats were anchored on Friday morning. His face and head bore deep cuts.

It is suspected the propeller fans of the passing boats had injured him.
