Give Rs 50 Lakh and House for Kotian’s Family urge Mogaveeras

Government and Fisheries Department should join together and offer Rs 50 Lakhs cash as compensation and build a house for the bereaved family of fisherman Rajesh Kotian who was brutally murdered by a bunch of Muslim youth

Mangaluru: Addressing the media persons during the press meet held at Mangalore Press Club, Bharath Kumar-President of Ullal Mogaveera Sangha said, “

The Ullal Mogaveera Sangha and the Mogaveera Mahajana Sabha and Ullal Mogaveera Sangha strongly condemns the brutal murder of a innocent, hard-working poor fisherman fisherman Rajesh Kotian alias Raju in Ullal on April 12, 2016 by a group of young Muslim youth. In retaliation of this brutal murder, the Mogaveera community had held protests in front of the Ullal police station demanding arrest of the culprits at the earliest- and in response the police did a good job. We sincerely compliment and thank the law enforcement authorities for arresting a few of the culprits involved in the murder act within 48 hours. Although a few culprits are still at large, we are sure the police will get them soon.”

“The murder of fisherman Rajesh aka Raju clearly shows this murder was a communal motivated one, between Muslim and Hindus (Mogaveers). This Mogaveer community is a hard community of fishermen who earn their daily bread through early-morning fishing. Whatever they earn for the day, lasts for the day, and next day they are all broke. Their work start during the wee hours of the morning, and they have to walk and venture into the sea in the dark. Rajesh hails from a poor family and is married, having a sick mother-in-law and mentally ill brother-in-law at home. He was the only one supporting these family members, but now with his unfortunate death the family is all devastated. On behalf of the Sangha I urge the Government and the Fisheries department to join hands together and offer Kotian’s bereaved family with Rs 50 lack as compensation and also build them a new house under government scheme.

Also speaking during the meet, Gangadhar Karkera-President of Mogaveera Mahajana Sabha said, ” This murder is simply based on communal hatred between two religious community. There is lots of ganja dealing activities going on, and the rumours are that when rajesh was murdered the culprits were high on ganja intoxication. The revenge by the other community members is not only on one person (Rajesh) but on the entire Mogaveer community. We have heard that many of this gang members follow the values and ideas of Pakistan, and involve in hate crimes. Due the recent murder of Rajesh, many fishermen are not taking up fishing due to fear walking in the early morning darkness. We urge the government to have a out-post in the area, depute more cops on night beat, in stall 3-4 CCTVs and also give a compensation of Rs 50 lakh to Kotian’s family, build them them a house, and also offer his wife a government job soon. We also urge that stern action be taken against the culprits, so that the family members get justice”

Other members of Mogaveera Sanghas namely Shanker Bangera, Rajiv Kanchan, and Sadananada Bangera were also present during the press meet.
