Mangaluru: The Karnataka Beary Sahitya Academy (KBSA) held a press meet at its office in Attavar here, on April 14.
Addressing the mediapersons, President of KBSA, B A Mohammed Haneef said, “To preserve and develop the Beary language, KBSA will organize a conference of Beary youth writers and artistes on April 16, 2 PM at the Town Hall. After the conference, a programme to give the honorary awards will be held at 4:45 PM at the same venue.”
“Senior writer and former President of Kannada Book Authority, S G Siddaramaiah will inaugurate the programme at 4:45 PM. District Minister In-charge, Ramanath Rai and Kannada and Sanskrit Department Minister, Umashri will present the awards to the awardees, BA Haneef, Mohammed Ali Ucchil and Mohammed K Matha,” Haneef said.
Udupi District In-charge Minister, Vinay Kumar Sorake will honour Yakub Khader Gulmadi with Dr Mohammed Doddamane memorial award for Beary Adhyayan. Minister for Health and Family Welfare, UT Khader will award Mariam Ismail Ullalbail with Dr Sushila P Upadhyaya memorial award. The honorary awards will carry a cash prize of Rs 50,000 and memorial awards carry a cash prize of Rs 10,000.
Fisheries Minister, K Abhaychandra Jain will inaugurate the exhibition and MLA JR Lobo will inaugurate the book exhibition on Beary literature. MP Nalin Kumar Kateel, MLA Mohiuddin Bava, MLC Capt Ganesh Karnik and other dignitaries will be present.
Haneef further said, “We have bought a piece of land at Baithurli to build the Beary Bhavan and we are awaiting funds to proceed further. The Beary-Kannada dictionary will be completed in November and will be printed in December. We will release the dictionary in January. A book on Beary vocabulary is also being planned.”
A minute’s silence was observed for the departed soul of journalist Haimad Hussain.
KBSA Registrar, Umarabba, Zohar Abbas, Abdul Hameed Golthamajal, Yusuf Waqtar and others were present.
