Mangaluru: Canara Students Ready with ‘Hurricane’, All set for national race

Mangaluru: Hurricane, a All-Terrain Vehicle designed by students of Canara Engineering College is all set to the National level Baja Student India 2016 vehicle race which will be held at Buddh International Circuit, Noida from 21st Jan to 26th Jan 2016.

Using Modern Techniques and skills Hurricane was designed by a team of 30 Mechanical Engineering Students within a short span of 6 months.

Hurricane with Top speed 50kmph can easily climb hills, steps and moves in ups and downs. 305cc 10Hp petrol engine, coupled with CVT having pneumatic suspension, this Vehicle has the imported spares as a spciallity. Having specifications like 60” wheel base, 62” track width, ride height 12”, weight 240kg hurricane is also capable of pulling weights.

Efforts were made by young bunch of budding engineers under the guidance of Mechanical Department HoD Dr Krishna Prabhu along with Asst. Professors Naveen Kalal and Prashanth M.V.

Hurricane is one among the 4 participants from the state among 2 from D.K District. A total of 60 teams are testing their luck in the final round race at national level this time.

Canara High School Association the Managing Body of the college which is celebrating its 125th year of existence has sponsored Hurricane along with others.

On the joyous occasion of the National youth day celebrations the ATV was unveiled by college Governing Body Hon.Secretary M Ranganath Bhat and College Correspondent M Padmanabha Pai by wishing the team all success.

Principal Dr Ganesh Bhat, Mechanical Department H.O.D. Krishna Prabhu, Administrative Officer Ganesh Kamath M, Vijayalaxmi Shenoy Yelthimar , G R Pai among the Sponsors were present along with others.

Hanock Sharan D’Souza welcomed the gathering. Team Vice-Captain Kiran Pai informed about the team and the Car Specifications with the release of a Promotional Video.

Team Captain Bhagiratha Somayaji thanked all sponsors and concerned for their support. Sooraj Shenoy compered the event. Puneethraj had the test drive of Hurricane around the college campus.
