Mangaluru: Gopala Gowda, the main accused in Sundar Malekudiya’s assault case in Beltangady, has been arrested by the police here, on August 22. He was arrested at Puttaparthi in Andra Pradesh.
Gopala Gowda was absconding from July 26, after assaulting Sundar Malekudiya with weed cutting machine. In the assault, Sundar lost four of his fingers. Since then, Gopal and his sister Damayanthi were absconding.
Sundara Malekudiya was assaulted due to a land dispute by Gopal Gowda with a weed-cutting machine and lost four fingers of his right hand as a result of the attack on July 26.
In regard to this case, Pushpalatha (sister of the main accused Gopal Gowda) was arrested by the police while Gopal Gowda, his other sister Damayanthi and her driver escaped and were absconding. As they were aware that they would be arrested, they were not using their mobiles as well not in contact with any of their relatives or friends. The police had an arrest warrant issued against them from the court.
The police on August 22, arrested Gopal Gowda and the driver Vasanth Gowda. Both were produced before the court. Gopal Gowda was hiding at Puttaparthi, Andhra Pradeshduring the time of arrest. During interrogation, Gopal revealed that his sister’s driver Vasanth had accompanied them and later left Andra Pradesh.
Vasanth was arrested in Channarayapatna, Hassan and brought to Beltangady on August 22. On August 23, both of them were brought to Mangaluru and produced before the court and remanded to judicial custody.
Gopal’s sister Damayanthi is still absconding and the police are searching for her.
