Seva Dal Chief Ashraf Arrested for Assaulting Women

Mangaluru: The convener of District Seva Dal Ashraf was arrested for assaulting a woman and her daughter, near Roopa Hotel, Balmatta – Falnir Road here, on July 18.

According to sources, on July 18, John Monteiro along with his wife and daughter were going out in their car for shopping. When they were driving out from their apartment Sahara Residency at Balmatta road, Ashraf blocked the way by parking his car in the middle of the lane. When John Monteiro requested Ashraf to remove the car, he refused. He also used foul language and assaulted John, his wife, and their daughter. The mother and daughter have been admitted to a private hospital.

Speaking to Mangalorean.com, John’s wife said, “We were going out for shopping. As we were driving out of our building, Ashraf blocked the way by parking his vehicle in the middle of the lane. I got down from the car and requested Ashraf to move the car but he refused and started using foul language. When I asked him not to use foul language, he assaulted me. Later, when many of the apartment owners requested Ashraf to remove the car, he assaulted my daughter too.”

Recalling an earlier incident, she said that last year Ashraf had also assaulted their watchman.

A case was registered in the Bunder Police Station. Ashraf has been arrested on July 18, by the Bunder Police under Sections 427, 323 and 354 of the IPC and Pocso Act. Ashraf has also filed a counter case against John Montiero.
