Udupi: Society should aim towards protecting and counseling children and grieving women, said Vinay Kumar Sorake, Minister for Urban Development and Minister in-charge of the district. He was speaking after laying the foundation stone for the District Observation and Children’s Home at Nittur here, on September 11.

Women and children are often subject to discrimination in our male dominant society. A separate clinic for women has been opened in the District Hospital to cater to the health needs of women. Children indulged in crimes were produced to the Observation and Children’s Home in Shivamogga but as the centre has been opened in Udupi, we will strive hard to bring down the crime rate among children, he added.
