Udupi: Youth Should use Media Effectively – Bishop Gerald Lobo

Udupi: The Indian Catholic Youth Movement (ICYM), Mother of Sorrows Church Udupi unit organised a day-long deanery level workshop on the “Use of Mass Media (Smart Sansaranth Yek Bhovndi)” at the church hall here, on October 11.

The programme began with an invocation by the unit members. President of ICYM Udupi Unit Vivina Saldanha welcomed the gathering.

Dr Gerald Isaac Lobo, Bishop of Udupi, inaugurated the workshop by lighting the lamp. In his message, the bishop said that social media has diverse effects on the youth. On one hand, it supports the ideas of youth and on the other, it diverts their minds. Social media should be used effectively, he added.

Fr Fred Mascarenhas, Parish Priest of Mother of Sorrows Church, said that social media should be used wisely. Fr Richard D’Souza, Director of Canara Communications, Mangalore diocese, explained the advantages and disadvantages of social media.

ICYM diocese president Derick Mascarenhas, Udupi deanery director Fr Royson Fernandes, Fr Royal Nazareth, Walter D’Souza, Wilfred, Leslie Cornelio, deanery vice president Onil Andrade, secretary Felina D’Souza, unit president Vivina Saldanha, unit secretary Lavita Coutinho and others were present.

ICYM unit secretary Lavita Coutinho delivered the vote of thanks. Deepa compered the programme.
