Vigilantes assault Two Persons Transporting Buffaloes

Karkala: In yet another case of cow vigilantism, the Bajrang Dal Activists in Mundkur near Jarigekatte of Karkala Taluk assaulted two persons on July 20, on the suspicion of cattle trafficking.

The injured have been identified as Rajesh Mendonca (34) and Sadhu Poojary.

According to the police, Sadhu Poojary had sold his two Female Buffaloes to Chandrahas Shetty of Mulki Punaruru for the purpose of dairy farming. The Female Buffaloes were being transported in Rajesh Mendoca’s Tempo with all the required documents from the local panchayat including the permission to transport them.

When the Tempo reached near Jarigekatte, Bajrang Dal activists Sandeep and Rajesh waylaid the Tempo and claimed that the Female Buffaloes were being transported illegally. The BD activists and others started to assault Sadhu Poojary and Rajesh Mendonca. Sadhu Poojary managed to escape from the spot while Rajesh Mendonca was severely assaulted.

When Karkala rural police reached the spot, the mob raised slogans and also clashed with the police who tried to disperse the crowd and control the situation.

Complaints and counter complaints were registered in the Karkala Rural Police Station.
