Mangaluru: The website ‘www.mangalorebicycleclub.com’ that gives a host of information starting with the basics of cycling to exercises for cyclists, nutrition tips, and other activities of the club was launched on Sunday evening, 3 July, 2016 by Shantharaju KSPS, DCP (L&O) at Sahodaya Hall-Kaces, Balmatta-Mangaluru. He addressed the gathering and spoke about the need of taking up cycling in today’s lifestyle. “It is good for the youth to pick up hobbies like cycling than be distracted with activities that would be detrimental to them. Cycling is among the health habits that will help build a healthy society. Besides health benefits, cycling in a group encouraged community living and exchange of ideas, and it could make youngsters better citizens” added Shantaraju.

Ganesh Nayak- General Secretary of the club took the gathering through the website. The website gives 10 important health tips for cyclists that include consuming carbohydrate filled food and prior hydration before starting cycling. It also gives information about stretching exercises and training schedule that they should follow. Anand Bhandarkar of ‘Tiger Den’ and his team helped MBC with the development of website. President of mbc, Dony Menezes welcomed the Chief Guest and the gathering of around 100 cyclists from the city. Ganesh Nayak briefed the gathering on inception of the club and growth over the last 5 years.

Senior cyclists of the club, Ashoka Vardhana, Gopal Krishna Baliga, Dr. Udupa, Dr. Gopal Krishan Hebbar were honored during the function. Cyclists Dony, Kishan, Arvind K Y and P A Mohammad were recognized for their extraordinary performances in this sport. Achievers of 100 and 200 km league were also recognized. Winners of Mbc gang war 2016 winners – team cyclo-maniacs led by Dr. Pritham were rewarded with certificates and Trophy. Winner of photography contest, Venu Vinod was also rewarded. Gopalakrishna Baliga and Kishan Bangera, stalwarts of the club also addressed the gathering. Mangalore Bicycle Club is aiming to initiative more and more activities around cycling which will keep this sport active in Mangaluru.
