11-year-old girl Fiona dies in Road Mishap at Suratkal

Mangaluru: An 11-year-old girl died after she was hit by a city bus at Honnakatte, Suratkal here on July 5.

The deceased has been identified as Fiona Gracia D’Almeida (11) daughter of Stany and Flavia D’Almeida of Honnakatte Suratkal.

According to sources, on July 5, morning Fiona was riding her bicycle on the side of the Road at Honnakatte. When Fiona lost control of her bicycle, a city bus moving on the highway hit her.

Auto drivers who witnessed the mishap rushed Fiona to a hospital in Suratkal, later she was shifted to a hospital in Mangaluru where she succumbed to injuries.

The funeral cortege will leave residence on July 7, at 9:00 am for Sacred Heart Church Suratkal followed by mass at 9:30 am.

    Such a loss of life due to parents’
    negligence of allowing children to
    ride a bicycle on the main road

    The bus driver too is at fault, for having
    hit her – as all vehicles must maintain a
    safe distance to brake in time in any
    unforeseen emergency inside villages as
    there are always people walking, cows
    wandering, and children playing or crossing.

    However, the village roads in Karnataka are very
    narrow and full of pot holes, and the local drivers
    of these private buses are as bad too in their ethics
    and driving skills.
