1600 MW extension of UPCL will Destroy Lives of People – Vijay Kumar Hegde
Udupi: The proposed 1600 MW extension of UPCL will destroy the lives of people in the district said Vijay Kumar Hegde, President of UPCL Horata Samithi. He was speaking at a press meet held at the Press Club, here on November 1.
To gather public opinion on the proposed extension, a programme will be organized in the district on November 10. A committee is also appointed to present a report on the environmental impact; UPCL Horata Samiti will be briefing the committee on the damages caused by UPCL in Yellur and surrounding villages.
The company has taken the laws of land for granted, they do not even have the licence issued from the gram panchayat to operate on the power plant. The temporary approval granted to the company has been produced in the court asking for relaxation.
The deputy commissioner is silent on the decisions taken by the company and any appeals submitted to him are neglected. It seems that the district administration is fighting on behalf of the company.
There are 37 cases pending against UPCL in the court. People should be united to address the issues concerning and destroying the district. The peoples representatives will be consulted on the proposed extension project, he added.
Yelluru Shashidhar Shetty, Janani Divakar Shetty and others were present.
